Question by sky queen: Stamps are going up once more on the 12th. Should not the Post Office become Privatized?
Postmasters are paid outrageous incomes, insurance, etc. They are paid to go to meetings that might final two weeks. They get paid for the gas, good motels, food, etc. exactly where they understand totally Nothing. It’s like vacations for them. Some district personnel go to Puerto Rico, Guam, etc. PAID by postage. Why must they be able to do that while rates of stamps go up? Perhaps they must get pay cuts, or turn out to be 100% privatized. What do YOU assume?

They are nevertheless more affordable in a lot of approaches than FedEx, UPS and the rest of the private delivery services. I am not sure that privatization will preserve postage costs down.

The post stamps would become more expensive. CEO’s have meetings too
You do realize that in order to get mail to you they have to use cars and that gas is almost $ 4 a gallon. This has made everything more expensive.
my family has worked in teh postal business for 3 generations (3 postmasters) and what you are describing is complete BS. Two of my aunts and my grandpa were postmasters, and they never went to 2 week long meetings where things were all included. I don’t know where you got your info, but it’s absolutely false. They worked long, hard hours from my observance of them. They got good benefits because it’s a government job, but none of that crazy “vacation” stuff you’re talking about. And is it really that big of a deal if stamps go up? It’s not like it’s costing $ 10 to send a letter, it’s still relatively cheap. I think the post office is running just fine the way it is.
You think postage is high now?? privatize it & see how high it goes…I guarantee you it won’t go down.
The postal service is no longer a government entity.
Send me your Paypal email address, and I will personally send you the average 48¢ per YEAR that this increase will add to your expenses.
And, actually, the 1¢ rise in the stamp is still LESS than the rate of inflation as measured by the CPI for 2007.
Get a grip already. If you’re this upset about maybe having to spend less than $ 1 per YEAR on stamps, I can imagine that you’re a real hoot at the gas stations these days.
Sure, USPS could be privatized and become a corporation like UPS or FedEx. Wouldn’t that be just peachy? Then the rates would go up in JANUARY every year instead of May. Oh, and then USPS could tack on a 14% fuel surcharge to all of the published rates. Oh, oh, we could also charge extra to deliver on a Saturday, and really stick it to them if we have to deliver to Aunt Millie waaaaay out there on the farm, with a remote location surcharge.
People like you don’t realize what a great benefit the USPS is to the citizen. Do you really think that a private company is going to deliver a letter from Miami to Honolulu for 41¢?
