This also raises the question of what is the primary trigger of ocean waves? Weather? Tides? Techtonic activity? The prayers of surfers?

Most likley no. Like Aruba when they were searching for Natalie Holloway. They stated that aruba has three sides of waves the other just goes out into the ocean. So if you threw one thing in the water it would not bring it back.
